Penang Free School, founded in 1816, is the first English school in the Far East. It has a chequered history rich in events which built fine traditions in education.
Most importantly, it cultivated crop after crop of all-round students who later contributed to the world at large in politics, the civil service, the various professions, entrepreneurship and civil society. On 21st October 2016, Free School celebrated its Bicentenary. Few other educational institutions in the world have a comparable history and fame.
